Jobber UK Alternative — Built for British Trades, Not North America

Jobber is a decent product — for North American trades. It's owned by a Canadian company, runs on QuickBooks Online by default, prices in USD with a GBP conversion, and the team's product team tunes for the US/Canadian market. None of that is criticism; it's just where Jobber comes from. A Jobber UK alternative built in pounds, with VAT, CIS, PAYE, Gas Safe and F-Gas as native concepts, with Xero as the default integration, is a different product. That's what we built. £599 a month flat, no contract, no USD surprises when the exchange rate moves.

  • GBP, not USD
  • VAT, CIS native
  • Xero two-way sync
  • Migration in a weekend
Jobber UK alternative — OptitechAutomation comparison
Where Jobber falls short for UK trades

Six gaps that show up after you've signed up.

Jobber's marketing site shows pricing in USD with a GBP equivalent. That's the first signal. The exchange-rate exposure means the bill moves. The Xero integration is one-way export, not the two-way sync UK accountants expect. CIS deductions need a workaround — Jobber wasn't built around the UK construction-industry scheme. Gas Safe certificate workflows aren't native. F-Gas register isn't a first-class concept. None of this stops the product working; it just means a UK trade ends up retrofitting Jobber to fit, when a Jobber UK alternative built natively for the UK would just work.

GBP billing

Jobber prices in USD, charges in USD-equivalent GBP. When the dollar strengthens, your bill goes up — even on the same plan. We price in pounds. £599 is £599 next month, next year, ten years from now (for Founders' Cohort, in writing).

UK VAT

Jobber supports VAT line items on invoices. We support VAT properly — VAT registration number on every invoice, reduced-rate handling, VAT-only invoices for zero-rated work, MTD-compatible export to Xero.

CIS deductions

For trades working on construction projects, CIS deductions are non-negotiable. Jobber needs a workaround. We have native CIS deduction handling on invoices, including the 20% standard rate, 30% higher rate, and gross-payment status.

Xero integration

Jobber → Xero is a one-way export. Updates in Xero don't flow back to Jobber. Ours is two-way: a customer-record change in Xero updates the booking-platform customer, and vice versa. The bookkeeper stops typing things twice.

Migration from Jobber

Jobber exports CSV — customers, jobs, invoices, quotes. We import the lot. Most migrations finish in a long weekend. Cristian sits with you on the first three live bookings.

Jobber vs OptitechAutomation

Two products. One built for UK trades.

Jobber's UK monthly drifts with the dollar exchange rate — you sign up at one price, six months later your card statement shows a different one. We're a Jobber UK alternative priced in pounds, locked. £599 a month for up to 5 engineers. £1,749 for up to 25. £3,599 unlimited. No per-user multiplier. No annual contract. No setup fee for the first trade in your UK county. Read the pledge in writing in your contract.

No USD drift

Priced in pounds. Same number each month. Predictable.

No per-user fees

One flat price for 5, 25, or unlimited engineers in the tier.

Lifetime rate-lock

Founders' Cohort customers lock today's rate forever.

Migration from Jobber

Friday to Sunday. Live Monday.

Jobber's CSV export is clean — customers, jobs, invoices, quotes, recurring work all come out in structured columns. We import them into our schema, map the customer relationships, set up your booking page, and parallel-run for the first week so nothing slips. Most Jobber-to-OptitechAutomation migrations finish in a long weekend. Cristian sits with you on screen-share through the first three real bookings on Monday so any edge cases get caught early. By the end of week one your team is operating on the new platform and you've stopped paying USD.

Cristian's note

I'm Cristian, in Torbay, Devon. I built this because I watched a Brixham heating shop spend three months retrofitting Jobber to handle CIS deductions.

Their bookkeeper had to type every CIS line by hand on the way to Xero. CP12s were going out without a Gas Safe ID tag, which meant the certificates technically weren't compliant. Every time the dollar strengthened, the Jobber bill went up two or three percent. None of this was Jobber's fault — Jobber's a Canadian product, and the founders built for North American trades. It just wasn't a fit. So we built a Jobber UK alternative where VAT, CIS, Gas Safe, F-Gas, Xero, PAYE and GBP pricing are first-class concepts. Same dispatch, same scheduling, same mobile app. UK conventions native.

If you're on Jobber and you keep finding small things that don't fit the UK, book the 20-minute call. We'll talk it through. If Jobber's working fine for you, I'll say so on the call.
